about

I wrote this song after a trip to Antibes, France – it’s about open sexuality and freedom despite those that try to keep us covered up. There had just been a terrorist attack at the Antibes Airport and I was terrified to spend time in Antibes. When we landed, the first place we went was to the beach right in front of our hotel. The beautiful people on the beach were wearing these, what us Canadians would call, tiny bathing suits, and some were only half dressed. The open confidence, bravery, sexuality, beauty and freedom was so apparent that it was almost hard to see if there was any felt vulnerability at all. Part of the reason the terrorists attack, is to oppose this lifestyle of freedom. To see these people so openly enjoying their bodies and the beaches in the sunshine was an image I will never forget.

I learned so much that trip, about letting yourself be free and open, and standing up for what you believe no matter what.

Before I left I went to the bathing suit shop and bought a bathing suit. I am ashamed to say, I chickend out and bought the top and not the thong bottoms. If ever I return, I’ll buy a pair in every colour.

lyrics

Fluorescent nails on the keys weaving stories of mystery
A misunderstanding, of my time
A chronology of my, my love stories

My red lips drop in holy waters
Relieved they’re drinking again
A European Swimsuit begs for you to touch me

Perched barefoot in the sanctity of all I put
Into my life, heated disasters
Holy kisses pass like legs in a bar

My red lips drop in holy waters
Relieved they’re drinking again
A European Swimsuit begs for you to touch me

Maybe I’m a sad girl in a black dress
May I’ve unlocked the glory of love and sex
Maybe I, am closer to God than you’ll ever be

My red lips drop in holy waters
Relieved they’re drinking again
A European Swimsuit begs for you to touch me

None of this works
Without a little bit a you
